Family Stress Lab

First Time Lab Visit
Thank you for your interest in our study! Here is some more information about the study so that you can decide if participation is right for you. If you would like to participate, there is a link below to our scheduler or you may contact us at 517-898-2206 or at We are happy to answer any questions you might have!

Our lab is located at the MSU Clinical Center (804 Service Road, Suite A-233 East Lansing, MI 48824) and has free parking. We will send you specific directions to the lab, once you have scheduled an appointment.

1) Participation in this study involves:

-- One 2.5-3 hour session at MSU; you will receive $25 for the session. We are located on Service Road with a private parking lot next to the building.

-- Parent and teen: daily completion of a few short questions (less than 10 min) at bedtime for 16 days. Parent and teen will each be paid $3 for each of these daily diaries. Parent and teen will also collect four saliva samples each day for two weekend days to help us learn about biological rhythms in families. Collection involves spitting in a tube and storing tubes in the freezer. Parent and teen will each be paid another $5 per day for providing these samples. In total, that’s $141 for participating.

-- A small subsample of families participating will then be contacted and asked to complete an online session involving two tasks completed during the visit to MSU, taking approximately 1 hour. These families will earn another $15.

Participation is voluntary. When your family arrives at our lab we will explain the details of the study, answer any questions you have, and ask both parent and teenager if you want to participate before we begin the study.

2) Participation in this study requires that families have:

-- A child who has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD, Autism, Asperger Syndrome and PDD)

--A teenager between age 13 through 17 who has NOT been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder

-- Parent has NOT been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder
